Hi ,
it will be interesting to see the agenda for the gathering in Portlaoise next month. If it is primarily focussed on the Mac Giolla Phadraigs of Ossory then want attraction would there be for someone like me who has no connected to Ossory and its associated families to attend ?

Hi
There was a focus on the historical sites within Laois. There was very little reference to the fact that DNA testing has identified other native Irish Septs who carry the anglicised surname Fitzpatrick. There was as far as I was able to discern from afar no attempt to discuss the history of the DNA groups outside Laois/Kilkenny= Ossory. From the numbers of people who have tested their yDNA and have a male connection to the Fitzpatrick surname ; there was no comparison to the distribution of the Fitzpatrick surname through out Ireland. The Fitzpatrick surname is not exclusive to Ossory. Within the surname project the Ossory Fitzpatricks are in number about 80 out of over 400 members. I am within the Ossory DNA group. I submit we need to adjust the focus of our project. We need to have historians and genealogists and geneticists. The geneticists have been ignored.

Hi Tim, based on what was available to view online of the "gathering" , that took place last August , your summary and conclusion of that weekend are fair and reasonable . This Clan Society's focus is very much on the diverse roots of the anglicised surname of Fitzpatrick . My personal focus is on the O Maol Phadriag name and the Briefne region although not exclusively .
